Part of a PhD research programme into the impact of backlog maintenance, this workshop focuses on improving NHS patient safety and estate management by analysing data, assessing system challenges, and fostering stakeholder collaboration.
Participants will explore issues such as asset deterioration, financial constraints, and backlog maintenance strategies through discussions on the results of a three year study into the impacts of backlog maintenance within the NHS.
The session includes brainstorming strategies for both short- and long-term improvements, culminating in policy recommendations and a roadmap for change.
We are seeking colleagues from estates whether in management, operations or compliance, to join the workshop to help shape the research into the importance of tackling backlog maintenance in the NHS

The Facilitators
The session will be facilitated by two NHS estates professionals, with a wealth of experience in estates and compliance management.

With over 17 years of NHS experience, 10 of which as Director of Estates and Facilities, David oversees the delivery of all estates, facilities, capital and complianceat UHS. David is also a 4th year PhD student at the University of Southampton
Alison Edmundson
Head of Compliance,
UHS NHS Trust
Alison has over 20 years in Estates and Facilities management, specializing in governance, performance, and regulatory compliance, leading EFCD Compliance and Business Management at UHS ensuring efficiency, high service standards, and strategic alignment.
