Friday Round-Up
Good morning, everyone! I hope you all had a productive week. It's Friday again, and an exciting one for me as we've just completed the analysis of the large language model using 4.6 million patient incident records. A huge thanks to Dr. Li at the University of Southampton for his invaluable contribution. I'll be diving into the results today to begin interpretation.
On Monday, I published an article on evidence-based maintenance within the NHS titled “Traditional Maintenance – Time for a Change.” It sparked some great discussions, emphasizing the need to improve how we capture and utilise data to support the NHS more effectively.
Tuesday brought a sneak peek of my podcast with Griffin Hamilton from the Modern Facilities Management podcast. Besides my own work, I highly recommend following Griffin's excellent podcast, which features FM professionals from around the world, sharing their experiences. It’s become a staple in my daily commute. I shared the full podcast link on Thursday evening, but for those who missed it, you can find it here:
Earlier this week, I ran a poll seeking your thoughts on the Lord Darzi report. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far! I’ll be sharing the results next week, but if you haven’t voted yet, there’s still time. You can cast your vote here:
Aside from the blog posts, the study, and the usual work responsibilities, I had the opportunity to attend the HEFMA South West branch meeting. It was a fantastic event, highlighted by the Bites and Bytes session. Speakers included Carl and Jans from Innnex.ai and Shabs from UHS discussing AI in healthcare, as well as national updates from David Moss of HEFMA and Alison Ryan from IHEEM. The day wrapped up with a heartfelt thanks to Paula Melhuish, who has made an incredible contribution to both HEFMA and the NHS throughout her career. Paula, who also serves as my deputy at UHS, will be retiring next week after decades of dedicated service.
Next week I will be sharing wiht you a couple of articles, one on functional suitability and on the engagement of the C-Suite directors on the issue of backlog maintenance. I will also be rounding up the month's activity on Backlog Maintenance Month.
Have a great weekend.
